[WAPO] “WITH THE presidential campaign entering its final days, you have likely heard the latest theory gaining currency among political pundits: If the election is about Hillary Clinton, and not Donald Trump, she is sure to lose.

We have written a lot in recent months about why Mr. Trump is manifestly unqualified — by experience, temperament and outlook — for the Oval Office. We agree that attention paid to his unfitness is to Ms. Clinton’s benefit. But we also believe that fair examination of Ms. Clinton in her own right provides convincing evidence that she is well prepared and fully capable to succeed as president of the United States.

When we endorsed Ms. Clinton, we stressed we were not choosing between the lesser of two evils. “Hillary Clinton,” we wrote, “has the potential to be an excellent president. . . . Anyone who votes for her will be able to look back, four years from now, with pride in that decision.” Not only has Ms. Clinton sketched out a thoughtful and ambitious policy agenda but she has run an impressive campaign, including her choice of running mate and her nimble mastery of three debates.

We are not alone in our recommendation. Most newspapers — including conservative newspapers that never before supported a Democrat for president — have endorsed Ms. Clinton, as have publications that broke decades-long traditions of not choosing sides. She has been backed by an impressive number of officials, former officials and experts from both sides of the aisle, including cabinet secretaries, retired military and Nobel Prize winners. Tellingly, people who worked most closely with her are most enthusiastic. “Prepared, detail-oriented, thoughtful, inquisitive and willing to change her mind if presented with a compelling argument,” was the testimonial offered by Michael J. Morell, 33-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency, who has served presidents of both parties and never publicly backed a presidential candidate before. “I never saw her bring politics into the Situation Room.”

These capabilities — President Obama has said there has never been anyone more qualified than Ms. Clinton to serve as president — must not be obscured in the sideshow whipped up by her opponents and unfortunately enabled by FBI Director James B. Comey’s ill-advised letter to Congress last month. There is no question that Ms. Clinton has flaws and has made mistakes in her 30 years in public life, but the caricature painted by her opponents is more slander than reality. Yes, she was wrong to use a private email server as secretary of state, but that does not constitute treason. Nor, as Mr. Comey’s Sunday letter makes clear, did it involve criminal behavior. Yes, she and her husband should have taken more care in avoiding even the appearance of conflicts with the Clinton Foundation, but that again doesn’t mean that crimes were committed or that the foundation doesn’t do worthy work.

It is hard to imagine that any other politician subjected to decades of unrelenting conspiracy-mongering, unprecedented scrutiny and outright misogyny would fare as well as she has. Some of the emails from her staff stolen by Russia and released show thoughtless comments and embarrassing political calculations by her staff, but many others reveal a woman with discipline and resilience who thinks thoughtfully about the important issues of the day and pushes for pragmatic solutions. Those are the qualities we hope will result in her being elected president on Nov. 8.”

When I see the elaborate study and ingenuity displayed by Hillary Clinton in the pursuit of achieving goals for Children, Women, Men and Equal Justice For All Under The Law, I feel no doubt of Hillary’s herculean undertakings as President Of The United States.

It is remarkable how the Media, Republicans, some Independents and some Democrats have constantly and consistently “labeled” Hillary Clinton as “untrustworthy.”

Hillary Clinton’s problem is not “transparency” it is “Misogyny!” America, for all of the braggadocio we indulge in about “Human Rights and Equal Rights and Equal Rights for Women,” we are hypocrites, hypocrites because despite being one of the most stable Democracies in the world, our words fall short. It is not our words that ring of hypocrisy, “it is our DEEDS.”

We are on the verge of Electing the First Woman to be President and yet, despite Hillary Clinton being enormously educated, very qualified and the most experienced person to ever seek the Presidency, the Media, Republicans, some Independents and yes, some Democrats just cannot usurp the bias they have against women being at the top of the Ladder.

As President Obama said during the Democratic Convention, “not him, not Bill nor any other person is more qualified to be President than Hillary Clinton.”

Hillary Clinton is a Yale Graduate Attorney and was named 3 years in a Row as one of America’s top 100 Lawyers by the American Bar association; Hillary was First Lady of Arkansas; First Lady of The United States; two term US Senator and Secretary of State and yet, Americans compare her to her “Opponent” who has never done anything for anyone, but conned Investors, robbed Employees and Contractors, created a fraudulent University and literally embezzled money from the young, middle-age, Veteran and yes, Seniors, for which he is facing a Fraud Trial under the RICO-ACT on November 28, 2016 and a Rape Case of a minor in December 2016.

People are wrong when they lay claim that Hillary Clinton is the Lesser of Two Evils, no she is not! Hillary Clinton has spent her entire adult life fighting for Children’s, Women, Men and Equal Rights for all, that is a service that should be praised, but instead, it is denigrated by almost every American News Agency – Television, Radio and Print.

Please no complacency! Support and Vote Hillary Clinton for President and give Hillary a Democratic Controlled Congress by getting rid of the “Do Nothing Republican Congress.”

The Upshot’s elections model suggests that Hillary Clinton is favored to win the presidency, based on the latest State and National Polls. A victory by Mr. Trump remains possible: Mrs. Clinton’s chance of losing is about the same as the probability that an N.F.L Kicker misses a 30-yard field goal.

From now until Election Day, we’ll update our estimates with each new poll, as well as collect the ratings of other news organizations. You can chart different paths to victory below. Here’s how our estimates have changed over time:

Support and Vote Hillary Clinton for President and Vote to Elect a Democratic Controlled House and Senate to keep America moving forward, as Hillary Clinton continues Obama’s Legacy, Polices and build on Obama’s achievements.

Hillary Clinton Isn’t The Lesser Of Two Evils. She Is One Of The Most Experienced Candidates In History. [Los Angeles Time]

[Los Angeles Times] “Greetings and salutations from Matthew Fleisher, digital editor of The Times Opinion section, here. We’ve got 44 days left until the most nerve-racking election in our nation’s history. Take a deep breath and relax while you still can.

It’s not exactly controversial to argue that Donald Trump is unfit to be president — and that, should he win in November, the country could plunge into an economic and moral abyss that would be difficult to recover from.

Yet while the conventional wisdom acknowledges that Hillary Clinton must become the next president for the good of the nation, there aren’t too many folks who seem to be especially happy about it.

Is America really just holding its collective nose and choosing the lesser of two evils by voting for Clinton?

The Times editorial board puts that notion t0 rest with a full-throated endorsement of the Democratic candidate.

Some voters who do not like Trump worry that Clinton, too, has serious shortcomings. And of course she does; all politicians do. She has a penchant for secrecy that has caused her significant problems, not least in the investigation of her ill-advised decision to use a private email server for her official communications as secretary of State. It is true that her family foundation took millions of dollars from foreign leaders and overseas business people while she was in Obama’s Cabinet, creating the potential for conflicts of interest. She and her husband have spent years among the rich and powerful and have grown at home in that favor-trading world in a way that makes many voters uneasy. This page has criticized her in the past for adjusting her positions to match popular opinion and for being a little too comfortable with the use of military force. And at least on the hustling, she lacks the authentic, let’s-have-a-beer personality that many voters seek in a candidate.

To be a great president, she will have to struggle to overcome her own weaknesses. But compared with Trump’s infirmities as a candidate, her failings are insignificant. It’s absurd — and perilous — to portray this election, as so many are doing, as a choice of the “lesser of two evils” or to suggest that her flaws are in any way on a level with his.

Neither Libertarian Gary Johnson nor Green Party candidate Jill Stein offers a serious alternative to the major-party candidates. Even voters who have questions about Clinton must recognize that neither Stein nor Johnson stands a chance of winning — and that a vote for either is merely one less vote for the only candidate who can defeat Trump. Besides, neither is a better candidate than Clinton; both were interviewed at length by The Times editorial board, and despite certain superficial appeal, neither comes close to matching Clinton’s qualifications, expertise or understanding of the political process.

The election of Hillary Clinton as the first female president of the United States would surely be as exhilarating as it is long overdue, a watershed moment in American history after centuries of discrimination against women. But that’s not the chief reason to vote for her. She deserves America’s support because she is the overwhelmingly better candidate. Against a Romney or a McCain, she would almost certainly be our choice. Against Trump? The question answers itself.

If Clinton does lose, we’ll have mealy-mouthed equivocations of the press to thank. At least according to Harvard professor and Times op-ed contributor Thomas Patterson, whose analysis of election media coverage found that two-thirds of stories written about Clinton are negative in tone, while almost completely ignoring the substance of her policy positions. In fact, Trump has been quoted more often about Clinton’s policies than she has.

Presidential politics aside, Californians have a giant decision on their hands about whether to legalize and regulate marijuana, by passing Proposition 64. The Times editorial board argues for a yes vote, because the reality is that California has already, essentially, legalized marijuana.

Just because marijuana should probably be legal doesn’t mean it can’t have deleterious effects on developing brains. How do you talk to your kids about marijuana, legal or otherwise, without delving into hyperbole, or diminishing the true dangers?

Worried about scarring your kids with your potty mouth (possibly while discussing marijuana)? Well, don’t. While homophobic and racial slurs can cause anxiety and depression in kids, there’s no scientific proof that exposure to your typical four-letter words causes any sort of direct harm.

Is it OK to sleep next to your newborn baby? In a piece that drew its share of impassioned critiques  from the medical establishment, op-ed contributors Robert LeVine and Sarah LeVine argue, yes, it can even be beneficial.

On Sunday, after 60 years, legendary Dodgers announcer Vin Scully will call his final game. On her podcast, Patt Morrison speaks with Roz Wyman, the woman who fought to bring Scully and the Dodgers to L.A. all those decades ago.”

Support and Vote Hillary Clinton for President and Vote for a Democratic Controlled House and Senate.

[Salon] “As you read this, pollsters are preparing to release surveys conducted over the past weekend and its immediate aftermath, when Hillary Clinton made her accurate but perhaps poorly phrased comment about Donald Trump’s “deplorable” fans, then nearly passed out at a 9/11 memorial service in New York before revealing she had been trying to “power through” a case of walking pneumonia. This allowed the media to start reporting on rumors about her health, which had previously been the province of the right-wing fever swamps from which Trump has drawn much of his support and campaign staff.

 aaliphotos-177

In other words, the news of the moment will likely result in some polls at both the national and swing-state level that do not look so good for Clinton. Hey look, it is already happening!

These polls will lead partisans to add to an already-vibrant chorus of grumbling about Clinton’s inability to already demolish Trump and political writers who will tell you that the carrot-colored real-estate mogul has “momentum.” Hey look, that too is already happening.

This would all be a lot more frightening if the narrowing polls had not been totally predictable, independent of any caterwauling from the media about health scares and Kinsley gaffes.  For we have now come to the Great Tightening, that point of every recent presidential election cycle when the candidates see their numbers in national and swing-state polls inch closer to each other. Predictably, this is being followed by the Great Freak-Out, when supporters of the leading candidate set their hair on fire and run through the public square screaming for water.

But this weekend’s stumbles by Clinton are also why articles that claim Trump has “momentum” tell us nothing more than that the writer had a quota to fill for the day. Momentum is an overrated concept in national elections at the presidential level, especially this late in the game.

In 2012, for example, Mitt Romney was supposed to have momentum after he performed much more strongly in his first debate against President Obama than most people expected. During this year’s primaries, Bernie Sanders was said to have momentum when he won the Michigan primary, and again when he won Wisconsin a few weeks later.”

RENO, Nev. — Hillary Clinton delivered a blistering denunciation Thursday of Donald Trump’s personal and political history with race, arguing in her most forceful terms yet that a nationalist conservative fringe had engulfed the Republican Party.

In a 31-minute address, building to a controlled simmer, Mrs. Clinton did everything but call Mr. Trump a racist outright — saying he had promoted “racist lie” after “racist lie,” pushed conspiracy theories with “racist undertones” and heartened racists across the country by submitting to an “emerging racist ideology known as the alt-right.”

“He is taking hate groups mainstream,” Mrs. Clinton told supporters at a community college here, “and helping a radical fringe take over the Republican Party.”

Mrs. Clinton said that while a racially charged and “paranoid fringe” had always existed in politics, “it’s never had the nominee of a major party stoking it, encouraging it and giving it a national megaphone, until now.”

Mrs. Clinton’s remarks coincide with a conspicuous shift in strategy from Mr. Trump, who has spoken with more compassion about people in the country illegally and expressed a desire to win African-American support. He has even suggested he might revisit his call to deport 11 million immigrants in the United States illegally, a pivot seen as an attempt to draw in moderate voters turned off by his views.

With Mr. Trump’s rise, Mrs. Clinton has often struck a have-you-no-sense-of-decency theme in her critiques — warning sternly and repeatedly that the arc of his candidacy transcended standard political attack. But her effort on Thursday was remarkable for its exhaustive accounting of Mr. Trump’s controversial racial history in business and in his presidential campaign.

Mrs. Clinton detailed the Justice Department’s housing discrimination case against Mr. Trump during the 1970s, noting that the applications of black and Latino residents “would be marked with a ‘C’ — ‘C’ for colored.”

Father, Nick Crews wrote a scathing e-mail to his children about their failings!

Posted in Children, Honesty, Nick Crews, Nick Crews Children, Parents, Responsibility with tags , , , , , , on December 1, 2012 by sheriffali

“Don’t judge Nick Crews for being too harsh, unless you have children and know beyond any doubt, that you have literally sacrificed your life for them, providing every opportunity humanly possible, but only to witness their terrible failings of complacency and capriciousness.” Sheriff Ali

Father’s screed a wake-up call for permissive parents!

 By Ronni Berke, CNN

Updated 7:19 PM EST, Fri November 30, 2012

 NICK CREWS

CNN) — They’re calling it the “Crews missile.”

Fired from the keyboard of 67-year-old Nick Crews, the missive blew the lid off his dysfunctional family.

In an e-mail titled “Dear All Three,” published in U.K. newspaper The Telegraph, Crews excoriates his three grown children for their professional and personal failures and for the “bitter disappointment each of you has in your own way dished out” to him and his wife.

Crews, a retired British naval officer, was fed up with his children’s unsuccessful marriages and inability to earn a living that, as he said, measures up to their potential.

“I for one, and I sense Mum feels the same, have had enough of being forced to live through the never-ending bad dream of our children’s underachievement and domestic ineptitudes.”

5 ways to raise a grateful child

In the e-mail, made public with his permission by his daughter Emily, Crews describes his concern for his grandchildren.

“It makes us weak that so many of these events are copulation-driven and then helplessly to see these lovely people being so woefully let down by you, their parents.”

And then this ultimatum: “I want to hear no more from any of you until, if you feel inclined, you have a success or an achievement or a REALISTIC plan for the support and happiness of your children to tell me about.”

Yet, the story, and support for Crews, has gone viral. It “struck a cord,” wrote Telegraph reporter Cristina Odone.

Sure, what parent doesn’t fear raising a bum? But as the mother of two young adult children, I had to wonder whether a withering e-mail attack was the best way to go about getting the kids to shape up.

I asked Dr. Gail Saltz, associate professor of psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill-Cornell School of Medicine, whether the former submarine captain took the right tack.

For a parent fed up with his child’s behavior, “It can be useful to do something shocking to get someone to take it to heart,” said Saltz. But, she added, one must pave the way long before the children became adults, with a warm, communicative relationship.

Although two of his children haven’t spoken to him since receiving the note, “Crews has been swamped with encouraging messages,” writes Odone. Many are applauding Crews for “telling it like it is.”

But does he? In the e-mail, he alludes to his own mistakes: “Having done our best, probably misguidedly, to provide for our children…” He describes his envy when hearing his friends brag about their children, and seems deeply wounded by the fact that his children don’t consult him or his wife before making life decisions.

The secret life of my sixth grader;

Perhaps he played a larger role than he would admit, or even knows, in how his children turned out. He did acknowledge to Odone that due to his naval career, he was pretty much an absentee father.

The Crews story may sound frighteningly familiar to baby boomer parents.

In the wake of the Great Recession, many parents have resigned themselves to the fact that their college-graduate children may not be moving out anytime soon and may not even have a job.

U.S. 2010 policy brief sponsored by Brown University showed that 43% of those under 25 live with their parents, up from 32% in 1980.

But is the economy alone to blame for what I fondly call “Deadbeat Kid Syndrome?”

“Not everything is parenting and not everything is biology,” said Saltz. “There’s a combination here.” And sometimes, she added, families just have bad luck.

Saltz said although Crews obviously loves his children, “he ended up missing the mark” with the e-mail.

Still, the fact that so many are rallying to his defense can be a positive thing, Saltz said, especially in a world full of “overly indulgent parents,” who aren’t teaching children life skills.

Everyone’s tweeting and boasting about their kids’ successes, but missing an important point, failure is important too.

“If you don’t teach your kids any resilience, you fail them out of everything,” Saltz said. “They need to fall down, say I fell down before but got back up, and I know I can do that.”

I’m guilty of this sort of thing. Growing up, I never once called my mother at work. Yet I allowed my own kids to call me all the time. It just took that much longer to wean them off the “workday quickie advice call.” Perhaps I should have let them figure out mundane daily jams on their own.

Many parents have blinders on. If you don’t want your kids to end up with an entitled attitude, why lambast their teachers for giving them bad grades, which they likely deserve, or for failing them for cheating?

When heroes disappoint our kids

Timothy Law Snyder is vice president for academic affairs at Loyola University Maryland and lectures nationally about generational differences. Snyder says some parents blame the school or the professor, rather than the student, for bad grades, even when their child is caught plagiarizing.

“It’s at its worst when the parent is living through their child,” he said. “The parents’ successes, even life accomplishments, are identified entirely with those of their child.”

“It used to be parents would go to the school and care that (their) kid has a moral compass and understands right and wrong,” Saltz said. Nowadays, the concept of right and wrong isn’t as clear. “They’re more concerned that the kid gets an A than be a kind person, a moral person.”

Saltz said parents are under pressure for things to look good and feel good. “They love their children. …. But they’ve got tunnel vision.”

Case in point: when everyone who plays soccer gets a trophy no matter how well, or poorly, they’ve played.

“Children come out and experience nothing but success, not necessarily done by them but enabled by their parents, intervening all the time,” Saltz said.

Such intervention also creates a shortcut to adulthood, and that’s not a good thing. Nor is having too many choices too soon.

Take the beauty salon. How young is too young for a manicure? In my salon, there’s a 4-year-old girl who’s been getting “mani-peds” for two years. She loves the pedicure bath,” the manicurist told me. What happens to that little girl when she grows up and can’t afford manicures?

And think, does your 6-year-old really need a cellphone?

As for the Crews saga, Saltz said she hopes it makes a lot of people think about being more honest with their children.

“Someday they’ll have to frustrate their child, disappoint their child, point out their child’s mistakes. By doing those things earlier rather than later, they’ll help their children to be better people.”

Would you write a letter like Crews’ to your children? Do you think such a message would be effective in changing behavior? Leave your opinion in the comments section below.
