[WAPO]  “To Hillary Clinton: Thank you for your dignity, your perseverance and your service.

Dear Secretary Clinton,

Though everything in your personal history suggests that Tuesday’s defeat will not mark the end of your work in American public life, I can imagine that this will be a moment of reflection and recovery for you. And though we have some profound disagreements, on the occasion of this transition, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for some of the contributions you’ve made in the past quarter-century as one of the most prominent women in American politics.

In the two and a half decades that Americans have used you to work out our complex and contradictory ideas about women, work and marriage, I have been moved by your dignity and resilience.

I don’t envy you the compromises — the enforced cookie-baking, the meeting with a group of female journalists to ask for advice on how to present yourself — or what must have been moments of agony in your marriage. But as I’ve watched you from a very great distance, I have been grateful to you for bearing some of the slings and arrows of the outrageous fortune that is the lot, in different degrees and forms, of all the women of this country. Every insult that didn’t level you, and every moment of absurdity you absorbed without staggering, helped start conversations about the expectations and standards women face.

You didn’t have a solution for this conundrum. None of us do. But if you couldn’t solve American gender politics in the span of a life, or act as a shield against the harshness directed at other women, you created space for the rest of us. We won’t surrender it.

Thank you for your commitment to service.

Defeat is not easy to accept with grace, and there is always a temptation in the days that follow to choose a different course or to withdraw entirely from the fray. After President Bill Clinton’s plans for comprehensive health-care reform failed during his first term, you became one of the champions of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. After you lost to then-Sen. Barack Obama in the 2008 primary, you campaigned for him and served as his secretary of state. You’ve demonstrated over and over again that you are truly committed to your pledge to “Do all the good you can,” even if the gains are smaller than you might have hoped, or if doing that good requires you to put aside hurt feelings. This is an exhortation and a model that we all ought to emulate in the weeks and months to come.

In the days since the election, I have thought frequently of the example you set in reaching out to others and forming life-long friendships with them.

Hearing from Ryan MooreAleatha Williams and Janelle Turner about your correspondence with them, and your care and attention during both painful and proud moments in their lives, has been a reminder to me to be more diligent in my efforts to stay in touch with the most important people in my own life. Listening to the Mothers of the Movement talk about how you listened to them is a testament to the simple power of presence. It’s precisely because time is in such short supply that offering it to others is a valuable gesture.

Thank you for laughing in the face of absurdity. Thank you for apologizing about occasions when you were wrong, and keeping alive the idea that politicians ought to educate themselves and to grow, rather than intellectually immobilizing themselves as the world changes. Thank you for your dedication to the Constitution and to the peaceful transfer of power in our democratic system; among many other things, your opponents will be measured by whether they show the same measure of allegiance to our most valuable norms and institutions.

I can only begin to imagine how painful it must be to feel that you are exiting one public arena with your work undone. I hope you take some measure of comfort from the idea that, though you may not see the garden in bloom, many of us will be tending the seeds you planted.

With respect and gratitude,

Alyssa”

GOP Governor Bobby Jindal: “Racism wouldn’t exist if minorities would just act like “White People.”

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 5, 2014 by sheriffali

It’s incredibly pathetic and sad when a politician with so much promise decides to pander to the most hateful elements in our society. In the aftermath of the 2012 election, Louisiana Republican Governor Bobby Jindal declared that the GOP needs to “stop being the stupid party.” However, that moment of sanity, and Jindal’s political career, went down in flames on Sunday after he blamed minorities for racism in America, claiming that racism wouldn’t exist if they would just forget about who they are and start acting more like white people.

In an op-ed published by Politico, Jindal lashed out at minorities to mark the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech. Instead of standing up against the many acts of racism that have been perpetrated by his own party and by conservatives around the nation, Jindal declared that minorities are responsible for the racism in this country.

To translate, it appears Jindal is actually blaming minorities for causing white people to be racist towards them, and is calling on minorities to end racism by conforming to American life as white people see it. In short, minorities should be more like white people if they want racism to stop.

So rather than call out the blatant racism of his own party, Jindal essentially decided that he’d be better off committing political suicide by pandering to the racists within the GOP to curry favor with them as we move toward 2016. This is yet another example of a Republican blaming victims for their own oppression. In reality, racists will not stop being racists if minorities decide to do as Jindal suggests. That’s because racists hate minorities simply because of the color of their skin, and that includes Jindal, which is why he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of ever capturing his party’s nomination for president.

Hypocritically enough, not even a day went by before Jindal violated his own call to action and proudly accepted being referred to as the first Indian-American Governor by David Gregory on “Face The Nation.”

Racism isn’t getting worse in America because minorities aren’t trying to act more white. It’s getting worse because a major sect of the Republican Party is clinging to their own Southern heritage, specifically the part where slavery, segregation, and legal discrimination were completely acceptable. Because of many policies in GOP-controlled states, minority communities have been isolated and basically segregated within the law. From ThinkProgress:

Donald Sterling is losing his plantation folks!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 1, 2014 by sheriffali

It just goes to show that you don’t have to be smart to be rich. The question is, how smart do you have to be? Here we are in 2014, not 1864, and yet some people still think like Donald Sterling when it comes to the question of race.

We’ve elected an African-American President – twice – but there are many who still think we are living 150 years ago.  [Politicusa.com]

“Though the colored man is no longer subject to barter and sale, he is surrounded by an adverse settlement which fetters all his movements. In his downward course he meets with no resistance, but his course upward is resented and resisted at every step of his progress.

If he comes in ignorance, rags and wretchedness he conforms to the popular belief of his character, and in that character he is welcome; but if he shall come as a gentleman, a scholar and a statesman, he is hailed as a contradiction to the national faith concerning his race, and his coming is resented as impudence.” [Frederick Douglass, September 25 1883]

Republicans racism pointed at the highest office in America!

If Ted and Rafael Cruz, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Donald Trump, Ann Coulter and others weren’t unequivocally sure that they would inure a tremendous negative backlash, they would use the word NIGGER, when speaking about President Obama.

Rafael Cruz narcissistic deluge about sending President Obama back to Kenya, which was conceived by Newt Gingrich’s derogatory remarks when he stated that to understand Obama, you would have to go back to Colonial Kenyan Times, reflects CNN double Standards, who tries to walk on both sides of the road at the same time, appointed Gingrich to Host their revived dumb show – CROSSFIRE!] It should really be called CROSSFIRE-WANTONNESS] Fox News is not only egregious, it is pernicious against Obama, but to their demented credit, they always walk on the extreme right!]

The scheming Donald Trump built an empire on the backs of the Investors for which he filed Bankruptcies four times leaving them in no man’s land, and let us not forget the hundreds of Students he ripped off with his Demonic, Crooked and Ponzi Scheme – Trump University! The only thing Trump can teach students is to be a heartless bastards and how to scheme people out of their money! [Remember his contribution to Racism? Obama’s Birth Certificate]

If a Black person had done 1/10 of 1% of what Donald Trump has been doing over the years, they would be in Prison for the rest of their life!

Just imagine, capricious Bush and Cheney damn near bankrupted the country; Obama came in and saved us from becoming like Russia in 1990, and yet these internecine racist blame Obama for everything that ails America.

All those with 401K plans, when Bush left Office your retirement plan was cut in half or less and today, it is back to 100% and then some. The Dow Jones that went from 14,000 down to 6,500 under Bush now stands at 15,600. For the lame brains that don’t understand, the Dow reflects our financial Pillar of Strength! The one trillion plus annual deficit that Obama inherited is now less than half and yet, Republicans lies promulgate that the deficit is rising.

Remember in 2008 when job loses were averaging 800,000 per month? Well, look at what has happened over the past five years.

Open Mother Jones Magazine Link and see what Ted Cruz father, Rafael Cruz said about President Obama.
