Gov. Rick Perry of Texas Is Indicted on Charge of Abuse of Power

AUSTIN, Tex. — A grand jury indicted Gov. Rick Perry on two felony counts on Friday, charging that he abused his power last year when he tried to pressure the district attorney here, a Democrat, to step down by threatening to cut off state financing to her office.

The indictment left Mr. Perry, a Republican, the first Texas governor in nearly 100 years to face criminal charges and presented a major roadblock to his presidential ambitions at the very time that he had been showing signs of making a comeback.

Grand jurors in Travis County charged Mr. Perry with abusing his official capacity and coercing a public servant, according to Michael McCrum, the special prosecutor assigned to the case.

The long-simmering case has centered on Mr. Perry’s veto power as governor. His critics asserted that he used that power as leverage to try to get an elected official — Rosemary Lehmberg, the district attorney in Travis County — to step down after her arrest on a drunken-driving charge last year. Ms. Lehmberg is Austin’s top prosecutor and oversees a powerful public corruption unit that investigates state, local and federal officials; its work led to the 2005 indictment of a former Republican congressman, Tom DeLay, on charges of violating campaign finance laws.

Following Ms. Lehmberg’s arrest, Mr. Perry and his aides threatened to veto $7.5 million in state funding for the public corruption unit in her office unless she resigned. The governor followed through on his threat, vetoing the money by stating that he could not support “continued state funding for an office with statewide jurisdiction at a time when the person charged with ultimate responsibility of that unit has lost the public’s confidence.”

Mr. Perry’s detractors said that his moves crossed the line from hardball politics to criminal acts that violated state laws. His aides denied that he did anything wrong and said that he acted in accordance with the veto power granted to every governor under the Texas Constitution. Ms. Lehmberg did not resign and remains in office.

The criminal indictment of the state’s chief executive shocked the Texas political world. Mr. Perry will be arraigned at a later date at the county criminal courthouse a few blocks from the governor’s mansion.

Mr. McCrum said it was a matter of procedure that anyone charged with a felony “will have to be booked in,” including the governor. Asked if Mr. Perry would have to have a mug shot taken and be fingerprinted, he added, “I imagine that’s included in that.”

The charge of abuse of official capacity carries a prison sentence of five to 99 years, and the charge of coercion of a public servant a two- to 10-year prison sentence.

The Drunken Pirate and his one-eyed myrmidons!

President Obama is calculating some very serious odds with very serious consequences. He’s done alright navigating the shoals of Iraq and Afghanistan despite being handed the tiller by a drunken pirate and his one-eyed henchmen.

However, it is amazing to see on a daily basis Polls after Polls the low ratings Obama receives from majority of the American people. One must ask, what is the reason behind those low numbers? Despite Obama having stabilized the country financially, militarily and otherwise, Obama inherited a job market where the previous occupant of the White House lost over ten million jobs and handed the range to the new President with an unemployment rate that exceeded 10%, today the unemployment rate is the lowest since 2008 and stands at 6.3%. But, his critics’ complaints are that these are not high paying jobs. Irrespective of where the jobs fall in the pay scale, it is better to have 9,200,000 people working than sitting at home in desperation with the out of control Republican House of Congress, refusing to bring to the floor a vote to reinstate the unemployment insurance that expired since last December, that would most certainly help those that have suffered and is still suffering.

On two other fronts, the housing market that totally crashed under Bush due to lack of oversight and or regulations, have rebounded. The stock market where the Dow fell to 6,500 under Bush, it stands today above 16,000. The S & P that fell under Bush to 730 wiping people’s 401K Plans by 50% or more have rebounded to over 1,850, regaining 100% of the 401K Plans value and then some.

Any fool can start wars and that was the case with the drunken Pirate and his one-eyed myrmidons that was running an Ochlocracy. Obama is wise enough and intelligent enough to see the futility into dragging us into another war. And because Obama is smarter than the “warmongers” of the failed Bush Administration and the all mouth and no brain Republicans, they say he is weak. Being humble and prudent is the resilience of strength; being arrogant and capricious is the “hallmark” of true weakness.

Bush’s lackadaisical attitude towards the August 6, 2001 National Security Daily Briefing that was titled; “Al Qaeda determined to strike within the continental United States, using Air Crafts as lethal weapons,” one month and five days later led to the 9/11 devastation that killed over 3,000 Americans and people from other Nations. The direct cost for the 9/11 attack was 1.5 trillion and the subsequent cost for the two wars Bush got us into is well over 4 trillion dollars.

However, you didn’t hear the Republicans and Fox Misnomer News calling for Bush’s impeachment; cover-up or resignation, but the one unfortunate attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans, they claim is far worse than Watergate. Under Bush there were 13 attacks to our facilities abroad that killed 60, but again, there was no outcry.

Republicans on 18 days paid vacation after denying Unemployment Insurance and blocking equal pay for women!

The Nexus of Republicans and Vladimir Putin!

Republicans, since retaking control of the House of Representatives in 2010 and the forty-five Republican Senators, really haven’t done anything tangible to get us out of the precarious predicament George W. Bush left us in, but, despite that fact, with the intelligence of President Obama and the Democrats, “we have come a long way from where we were at the end of Bush’s Presidency in 2008.”

Banks are no longer collapsing; The Stock Market is at an all time high; The S & P went from a low of 730 and stands presently over 1,800, that helped the 401K Plans to not only regain 100% of its value, but added value beyond that. Unemployment that was at an all time high over 10% when Bush left Office is today 6.7%. Under Bush we had a net gain of jobs of one million for all of Bush’s eight years and under Obama, we added 8.9 million new jobs. Obama ended the Iraq war and by the end of this year we would be out of Afghanistan. The total cost of those two wars thus far, is estimated to be over four (4) trillion dollars.

However, Republicans cannot take credit for anything because rather than help they obstructed, lied, cheated, schemed and did everything to persuade the American people that “all that ails America and their lives is the fault of President Obama.” As strange as it may seem, a great majority of Americans seems to agree with the Republicans misnomer. To be frank about how uninformed and ignorant we have become, only 27% of Americans knew where Ukraine is located. In a recent Poll many Americans thought that Ukraine was within one of our fifty States; some thought it was located in South America and others placed Ukraine literally in the Ocean 180 degrees from where it is. So, in the final analysis, some of us are just plain dumb!

Putin is using Ukraine as a Panacea to hide Russia’s rough and tumbled economy and it is getting worse for Russia by the day as it pertains to Russia’s financial stability. However, Russia like North Korea control the media and Putin spoon feed the Russian people as to how great Russia is doing and out of being uninformed and ignorant of facts, many Russians see Putin as their Savior the same as many Americans see the Republicans as theirs.

Nothing can be further from the truth because factually, Republican Legislators have become Pariahs of the Middle-Class and the Poor and Putin; he is a self centered, conceited Pariah of anyone and everyone, except Putin.

In the final analysis, Putin and our Republican Legislators only interest, is to “remain in power, lie, cheat, steal, deceive for their own benefit and the few they favor!”
