If Republicans, especially Mitch McConnell were really True Patriots as they pretend to be, “they would put America First and no one would have to demand an Independent Investigation. They would do exactly what they did with Benghazi and Hillary Clinton’s emails. But as we are witnessing from Trump and the Republicans, Hypocrisy Is A Fatal Tragedy For America.”

The Trump Russia Nexus – New York Times: “Many unknowns remain, but here is what we know about the collusion story so far.”

“The acting director of the F.B.I., Andrew McCabe, told Congress on Thursday that President Trump’s firing of James Comey has not derailed the agency’s investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. Which is good news. Despite Mr. Trump’s assertion that the idea of collusion is “a total hoax,” and despite many unknowns, the links continue to pile up. Here is a partial accounting of the connections we do know something about.

THE TRUMP FAMILY BUSINESS There may be no Trump Tower in Moscow or St. Petersburg, but it is not for lack of trying. Mr. Trump and his family have sought to do business in Russia since at least the 1980s. They have also developed extensive commercial and personal relationships with politically connected Russian businessmen. In 2008, Donald Trump Jr. told a real estate conference, “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross section of a lot of our assets; say in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo and anywhere in New York,” according to eTurboNews, a travel industry news site. The author James Dodson said that another son, Eric Trump, told him in 2013 that Russians have bankrolled Trump golf courses: “Well, we don’t rely on American banks. We have all the funding we need out of Russia.” Eric Trump denies saying that.

In addition, Donald Trump worked with the Agalarov family, a prominent Russian business group, to host the 2013 edition of his Miss Universe pageant in Moscow. Mr. Trump met more than a dozen of the country’s most prominent oligarchs while he was there, Bloomberg News reported. Jared Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump and is a senior adviser to the president, has also been caught up in the Russia story. During the transition, Mr. Kushner met with the Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, as well as with the top executive of a Russian government-owned bank.

The world would know much more about Mr. Trump’s foreign partnerships if he had released his tax returns, as every president has done for the last 40 years.”

President And Michelle Obama Brings Voters’ Trust to Hillary Clinton’s Campaign

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 12, 2016 by sheriffali

AALIPHOTOS 117

[NYT] WASHINGTON — Michelle Obama has bridled for years at the confines of life in the White House and has tried to steer clear of the partisan messiness that has consumed her husband and is fueling this year’s bare-knuckled presidential contest.

But this week, Mrs. Obama will wade into the campaign fray on behalf of Hillary Clinton, putting her broad popularity and reputation for authenticity to work for a candidate who has suffered from a lack of both.

At an event in northern Virginia on Friday, Mrs. Obama will urge voters to register ahead of the state’s Oct. 17 deadline, the first of what aides say will be a series of appearances in the coming weeks in support of Mrs. Clinton.

Mrs. Obama’s steps into the campaign spotlight underscore her transformation from a once-reluctant political spouse into a confident public figure, a role she says she has embraced more fully during President Obama’s second term.

Mrs. Obama’s communications director, Caroline Adler Morales, said the first lady’s focus would be on encouraging voters in swing states, particularly young people and African-Americans, to register and vote.

Her message, Ms. Morales said, will emphasize “the qualifications and demeanor a president need the values we hold dear as Americans and our shared hopes for the future.”

Mrs. Obama previewed her pitch in July during a Prime Time Speech At The Democratic National, in which she delivered a testimonial for Mrs. Clinton as a leader who could be trusted to carry on Mr. Obama’s legacy. It was also a quiet but sharp denunciation of Donald Trump, whom she did not name, in which she took aim at his campaign slogan and derided him as a cynic who viewed the world’s challenges in terms of 140-character posts on Twitter.

America Needs To Keep The White House Under Democratic Control. The Economy Is Bouncing Back Strong Once Again And Republicans Are Hoping To Win In Order To Wreck America Again. Please Look At The Three Images In This Blog As It Relates To Bernie Sanders And What The Hispanic Vote Says About Mr. Sander’s Chances.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 10, 2015 by sheriffali

Even as Bernie Sanders moves up in the polls, many people are realizing that there’s a big hole in his coalition: black voters.

Barack Obama won a razor-thin victory over Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic primaries seven years ago in large part because black voters supported Mr. Obama by a 5-to-1 margin. Without their support, he would have lost, and lost big — probably by more than 20 points in the national popular vote.

As a result, many have framed Mr. Sanders’s challenge in racial terms. But his challenge in getting the support of nonwhite voters is not simply a problem of race. It’s primarily a problem with moderate and less educated Democrats, regardless of race, which disproportionately affects his support among nonwhite voters. His challenge among black voters may be no greater than his challenge among ideologically and demographically similar white voters.

It’s not very fair to Mr. Sanders, or any liberal Democrat, to judge his support among black voters by comparing him with Mr. Obama. In 2008, there was a strong relationship between the proportion of a demographic group that self-identified as liberal and Mr. Obama’s strength against Mrs. Clinton. Mr. Obama lost all of the least liberal groups of the Democratic Party, except black voters.

Without Mr. Obama’s unusual strength among black voters, another challenge to Mrs. Clinton on her left would struggle to keep Mrs. Clinton from doing well enough on moderates to deny her the nomination. The easiest way to think about Mr. Sanders’s challenge is to remember Mr. Obama’s weakness among Hispanic voters in 2008. Over all, Mr. Obama lost Hispanic voters by 26 points against Mrs. Clinton — worse than his margin among white voters.

Mr. Obama’s weakness among Hispanic voters didn’t fit neatly into the conventional explanation of Mr. Obama’s challenges in 2008. Commentators often presumed that Mr. Obama was weak among less liberal and less educated white voters because of racism, so they undertook tortured efforts to fit Hispanic voters into the same frame, arguing that Hispanic voters wouldn’t vote for a black candidate, perhaps because of urban rivalries between blacks and Hispanics.

BERNIE SANDERS - HILLARY CLINTON 1972 1984 BERNIE SANDERS - 1984 ELECTION BERNIE SANDERS - 1972 ELECTION 2

CNN Tabloid News Is Bankrupt Of Shame As Most Of The Corporate Owned Media. Imagine! 29% Of Americans Blame President Obama For Hurricane Katrina Disaster While 28% Blame George W Bush. With That Amount Of Stupidity Flooding America, How Can Any Poll Decipher How Many People Trust Or Don’t Trust Hillary Clinton.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 8, 2015 by sheriffali

Hillary Clinton has spent all of her adult life protecting Children, Women’s Rights, Minorities and to date, despite all of the phantasmagoric rationales and internecine accusations, Mrs. Clinton has never been charged for any crimes whatsoever.

George W Bush, Dick Cheney and the entire G W Bush Administration sat around with threats months in advance that Al Qaeda was determined to strike within the Continental United States Using Aircrafts as Lethal Weapons and on August 6, 2001 the Presidential Daily Briefing [PDF] specifically headed that day’s report, Bush and his administration sat around until 3,000 Americans including other Nationalities were killed in the 9/11 horrible terrorist attack. To date, no Republican has ever really asked any serious question about that negligence, but to this day, Republicans are still carrying on about Benghazi.

Under President Ronald Reagan we had 13 attacks that killed 93 people; and if you count the Marines Reagan sent to Lebanon where 243 Marines were killed in one day from a suicide attack, the shock is still there. Under George W Bush we had 7 attacks that killed 51 people and under President Obama and Hillary Clinton we had one attack, Benghazi, that killed 4 people, and three years later at a cost of 57 million dollars to the taxpayers; 13 Investigations, Republicans are still beating the conspiracy drum on Benghazi.

Just how long the Right Wing, uninformed, ignorant, uneducated, brainwashed GOP voters would take to see that their Republican Leaders for who they are; CROOKS, LIARS, THIEVES, WAR MONGERS, THAT ONLY CARES ABOUT THE 1%.

[VOX] Hillary 101

Hillary Clinton is iconic to both her fans and her detractors. At the end of 2014, for the 13th consecutive year, she was named the woman that Americans most admire in the world. And yet politicians, authors and talk show hosts, including some liberals, have made careers out of demonizing her.

Now, for the second time, she is seeking the presidency, and one of the highly polarized views of her will win out in 2016.

To understand why one person simultaneously inspires so much enthusiasm and so much enmity from the American public — and to understand what has propelled her from mountain to valley and back again — you have to carefully examine the mix of ambition, determination, policy acumen, and political maneuvering that drove a conservative Midwestern girl to become the Democratic Party’s best hope for winning the presidency in 2016.

And you have to understand that her political life has been lived in an era of increasing polarization, decreasing trust in public figures and institutions, and perpetual electoral politics.

Clinton’s long tenure in the eye of the national political storm — a quarter of a century by Election Day 2016 — makes her unique among this cycle’s crop of presidential aspirants. By contrast, Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, and Ted Cruz are new on the landscape. Democratic rival Bernie Sanders was elected to Congress two years before Clinton came to Washington, but his profile has been much lower. Even Jeb Bush, whose father and brother were president, has never before been a national political player in the way Clinton has been as first lady, New York senator, secretary of state, and two-time presidential candidate.

All that time in the spotlight has brought concomitant scrutiny, and the file on Clinton is thick. Its pages are filled with gritty battles, triumphant victories, bruising defeats and humiliations, scandals and pseudo-scandals, political resurrections, policy evolutions, and too many contradictions to count.

It’s almost too much for anyone to process at once. After all, Clinton herself already has written two full-length memoirs. One instructive way of trying to grasp who Clinton is today, and where she came from, is to look at the defining moments of her public life, from overachieving student to political spouse to high-ranking government official.

In “Let People Vote” {Editorial June 5, 2015} You Are Right To Applaud Hillary Clinton In Making Voting A Top Priority

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on June 11, 2015 by sheriffali

[NYT] In “Let the People Vote” (editorial, June 5), you are right to applaud Hillary Rodham Clinton in making voting reform a top priority. However, I firmly believe that this issue is not about Republican versus Democrat. I believe that all Americans want the same thing: a fraud-free election in which as many citizens vote as possible. It is a disgrace that turnout in America ranks 138th out of 172 democracies around the world.

It is common sense that if you want to fill voting booths: 1) you don’t hold elections on a single working day when many people with two jobs and single working parents can’t vote; and 2) you make it as easy as possible for all citizens to register, and today that means electronically.

I won’t accept the notion that any of the candidates, Democrat or Republican, who hold themselves out as capable of leading our nation think otherwise. For example, Senator Rand Paul has publicly asked, “Why don’t we be the party that’s for people voting, for voting rights?” and has introduced a bill to restore voting rights for nonviolent felons in federal elections.

So I call upon all candidates for president to follow in the steps of Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Paul by speaking up on ways to increase voter turnout.

HILLARY CLINTON WHITE HOUSE - 14 HILLARY CLINTON WHITE HOUSE - 6 HILLARY CLINTON WHITE HOUSE - 1-A

Rob O’Neill, The former Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden is slamming Seymour Hersh’s report that challenges the White House’s account of the mission, calling it “garbage.”

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 12, 2015 by sheriffali

[WSJ] Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh published an article Sunday about the 2011 raid on Osama Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan that immediately went viral, crashing the London Review of Books Web site.

Among its striking claims: Bin Laden was a “prisoner” of the Pakistani intelligence service in his Abbottabad compound since 2006; the United States learned of Bin Laden’s whereabouts through a former Pakistani intelligence officer; Saudi Arabia was “financing Bin Laden’s upkeep”; and Pakistan’s military helped Washington plan the raid.

There’s a lot to absorb in Mr. Hersh’s lengthy story. The White House has denied the allegation that Pakistan cooperated on the raid. Here are three reasons to be skeptical of some of the article’s claims:

Sourcing. This article takes the practice of anonymous attribution to a new level. Mr. Hersh’s 10,356-word account is based nearly exclusively on a handful of unnamed sources–which can’t be fact-checked–and mainly one retired U.S. intelligence official. One of the only named sources is Asad Durrani, a former director of Pakistani intelligence in the early 1990s. In an Al Jazeera interview this year, Mr. Durrani insinuated that Pakistani intelligence knew about Bin Laden’s presence in Abbottabad. But Mr. Durrani retired more than 20 years ago. Even in a country where retired security establishment figures retain influence and access, such a long separation from public service suggests that Mr. Durrani is not the most plugged-in source.

Quotations. Mr. Hersh’s account features voluminous, sometimes paragraphs-long quotations. Some are suspect for logical reasons; among theskepticism expressed online, for example, was a point on social media that the way in which a “former Seal commander” reportedly spoke about SEAL missions is unrealistic. Other remarks appear absurd or, at the least, ill-informed. The retired U.S. intelligence official says that Pakistani military officers believe they are the “keepers of the flame against Muslim fundamentalism.” Based on what I’ve observed as an analyst of Pakistan, I would argue that it’s more accurate to say the Pakistani military is a keeper of the flame of fundamentalism, thanks to its associations with militant groups.

U.S.-Pakistan Relations. In early 2011, U.S.-Pakistan relations were in deep crisisthanks in part to Raymond Davis, a CIA contractor who was arrested after killing two people at a crowded intersection in Lahore. According to Mr. Hersh, at that point the CIA and Pakistani intelligence were closely cooperating and jointly planning the raid on the Bin Laden compound. He writes that the retired U.S. intelligence source said that a Pakistani intelligence “liaison officer” flew with the SEALS on the night of the raid. Unless the crisis in relations was an elaborate cover, it beggars belief to assume such close intelligence cooperation.

Mr. Hersh is a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who has broken major stories, including the My Lai massacre in Vietnam and Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. This account purports to explain an elaborate conspiracy theory, and–as I have written previously–such stories sometimes contain elements of truth.

Still, the issues of sourcing and substance suggest taking Mr. Hersh’s account with a healthy dose of salt.

Buoyant In Defeat, President Obama Ascends To The Mountaintop To Throw Thunderbolts At Republicans [Maureen Dowd NYT]

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 24, 2015 by sheriffali

WASHINGTON — THE talk up in Boston is all about deflation while the talk down here is all about inflation.

Our sleek, techie president, whose battery dies faster than an iPhone’s, was fully charged Tuesday night for the State of the Union.

He was so puffed up, with such a bristling sense of self, that it was hard to believe this was the same guy who spent the last year clenched like a fist, beset by ISIS, beheadings and Ebola, shunned by his own party and slammed by the other party in the fall election.

The murmur went up from grateful Democrats gathered at the Capitol: “Wow, he’s got a pulse.”

Proving once again that he is a different kind of cat, Barack Obama is oddly pumped by his party’s defeat. Even in the House chamber, surrounded by hundreds of people and watched by millions, he seemed to delight in his detachment as he laid down his own markers to drive up his own numbers.

He doesn’t mind splendid isolation. He really thinks it’s splendid. He’s free to revert to being the consummate outsider who doesn’t see himself in the context of a system.

He likes the game better when he’s up against an opposing team. To him, Harry Reid was as big a problem as Mitch McConnell.

Now it’s easier for him to see who he is and where he stands vis-à-vis the Republicans because he doesn’t have to make intellectual compromises or negotiate the jagged shoals of the old-school Democratic Party. Now he can define himself against modern conservatives such as Rand Paul and Scott Walker.

President Obama feels he will be able to finally float above it all, more singular and more interesting and more separate, debating enlightened progressive topics like criminal justice reform and child care infrastructure while those off-kilter conservatives fight it out for 2016.

Unlike F.D.R., Obama was not determined to give Americans heart and courage at times of crisis. Instead, his White House tended to take on the coloration of his funks and the clouds spread worldwide.

He only began to really brag on the economy Tuesday night, when he felt certain of the numbers, rather than before the midterms, when it might have helped his party. He could have done a better job all along explaining where we stood and where we were hopefully headed. As one top White House official says about the Obama inner circle, “They’d rather be right than win.”

He’s alone on the stage — always his preferred setting. As an isolato, he can say what he thinks and define himself on his own terms. He can ascend to the mountaintop and ignore us when we pester him to come down.

He doesn’t have to negotiate with Republicans anymore. He doesn’t have to stroke Democrats anymore. He doesn’t have to hawk himself to voters anymore. He isn’t concerned about Hillary, as he yanks the party to the left. He has forged no lasting links to foreign leaders. And he can have the “vacation from the press” that he told NBC News’s Chuck Todd he yearns for.

“Barry got his groove back,” as Larry Wilmore, the droll host of Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show,” put it.

We got the guy we’ve been yearning for only when he was able to blow us all off. He can finally do and say whatever he wants.

One Democrat who saw Obama in the White House said the president was so buoyant he had an air of “senioritis.”

It seemed a shame, the Democrat said, that Obama couldn’t have a third term, now that he was, at long last, fired up and ready to go. Of course, if there was a third term, he would be waiting another four years to show the mojo.

Thrilled to sidestep the press, he felt liberated enough, even as Yemen spiraled, to go on YouTube and make his case to the appealing GloZell Green, a YouTube star wearing glowing green lipstick who got famous eating cereal out of a bathtub.

Remarkably, The One has ended up in the same place the unpopular W. found himself at the end of his two terms: casting his lot with history.

Now that it’s all about him, he doesn’t get languid and reflective. He rolls up his sleeves and crisscrosses the country.
